Has this ever happened to you?
You turn on your DesignJet 5000 or 5500 model plotter and before it comes to the ready prompt:
Error 1f500XX (boot failed) or e50000?
Both errors are related to a failed or improperly connected hard disk drive.
So you follow the troubleshooting tips in your trusty manual only to find out your hard disk has gone caput, trashed, fried, no longer in this world, DEAD.
What to do now?
Order a new one.
Well that could be an issue, you see in the past two years our friends at HP have stopped producing them. The original hard disk that shipped in your plotter when it was new was a PATA or EIDE hard drive, HP changed that and started shipping a replacement SATA drive with an adapter kit. But no more.
The drive kits:
DesignJet 5000:
C6090-60344 for RTL (non-postscript)
DesignJet 5000 PS:
C6091-60268 for Post Script
DesignJet 5500:
Q1251-60323 for RTL (non-postscript)
Q1252-60045 or Q1252-60054 for Post Script
All of these hard drive kits have been discontinued and are no longer produced by HP.
Follow up:
OK, Now what do we do?
Computer Care has a solution.
We offer a direct replacement EIDE (PATA) drive for your DesignJet 5000 and DesignJet 5500 plotter models both for Post Script and RTL.
If you have never replaced your original factory installed hard drive, then you are in business. Open up the back cover, over the hard drive and take a peek.
If you hard drive has a single ribbon cable (usually gray) running from the drive to the interface daughter board, then you still have the factory installed EIDE drive.
This means we can ship you a replacement drive which is hard drive only, you will use your original foam hard drive mounting carrier and your original cables.
Follow closely the enclosed instructions, you will need to perform an EEROM recovery and recover your media profiles and you will be up and plotting again in no time.

C6091-60268 DesignJet 5000PS Hard Drive Bare for Post Script models
DesignJet 5500:
Q1251-60323 Designjet 5500 Hard Drive Bare for RTL (non-post script)
Q1252-60054 DesignJet 5500 PS Hard Drive Bare (for Post Script Models)
Soon we will be offering these same hard drives in the SATA version, but they too will be bare, hard drive only versions.
For those of you who have upgraded all ready and are currently using the SATA adapter board and cable kit.
